For those who think they need caffeine to wake up ….

There are some who believe that the only way they could possibly wake up in the morning is after their latte macchiato or other bold brew of the day.  But I guarantee if you spot an earwig on your moist towlet that you reached for on the loo … you will have enough adrenaline in your system to stay awake until well after Jimmy Kimmel signs off for the night.  What is sustaining of course is when  you begin to wonder how many earwigs you may have MISSED in the early morning hour.  Or how is it even possible for an earwig to crawl inside of a closed container.  The earwig plot lines are endless.  And yes, even though I am a vegetarian there was certainly a moment of CRUSH THAT LIVING CREATURE!!  And perhaps if I had shoes on in the moment I may have.  But no, the sliding door to the outside is only steps away, and this little uninvited guest was escorted off the premises in tact and hopefully found a better place to pass the time.  However, I realize now that my laundry basket of clean clothes was also sitting outside my door, so the sequel to the earwig surprise party may be in the works.

When you hang your laundry on the line you can expect one or two surprises in your shorts.  That’s part of the au naturel deal you make with the sun for drying your clothes.  I was reminded of this when my son came in quiet alarmed the other day as he informed me there was a moth inside of his boxers.  He realized this only AFTER he put them on as he stepped out of the shower.

However we manage to wake up, the blessing is of course that we are in this moment awake.  We can see through our eyes, instead of seeing only the “I” that is keeping us closed off from Life.  We are a world of wake up calls from android reminders, microwave timers, to telemarketers that seem to call precisely when we sit down to eat our dinner every night.  And yet we are prone to waves of such frequent narcolepsy that it is a wonder we ever open our eyes.

What puts us to sleep?   What keeps us sleeping?  How do we know when we are sleep walking throughout the days (daze)?  Perhaps the draw of the dream is so compelling that we shush the whispers from our soul.  For some the pain that we face, or outright deny, keeps us frozen in a state of perpetual purgatory.    So we try and shut our eyes, close our Self off from those around us, run and hide under the covers in a fast and furious race to the next moment … because this moment is simply too hard to handle.  Or so it may seem.

Because in Truth, when we see our connection we realize that we have never been alone and that we are in fact surrounded by Love.  And waking up to THAT if even only for the blink of a bug’s eye, or an earwig’s pinch I suppose, is a priceless gift.  May we each be so blessed to find a bug in our bonet, if that’s what it takes to bring us out of our dream and into this moment where anything is possible.
