He makes me laugh …

I needed to backroll to a restore point yesterday on my Windows 8 laptop. Its nerve wracking for me of course, as I don’t have a backup of my files and I tend to get all weirded out at the thought of NO TECHNOLOGY access. So as i sat there .. waiting … and watching a screen that seemed to say RESTORING REGISTRY for what felt like HOURS, I turned to my boyfriend and said some version of

“This is really making me nervous. I think it could be stuck, but I don’t want to turn my laptop off in the middle of the restore, because that could really muck up the registry. But I’d feel much better about waiting IF I could see some sign of progress on the screen. I’d like for the file names to be rolling by or something. I want to see flashing things. Then I’d feel better.”

“Flashing things?” he said as he got up and went across the room. I could see he was holding an object behind his back when he returned, but just as he came in front of me he ducked down below the screen of my laptop. Then he popped up a flashlight and turned it on above my display. Then shut it off quickly. Popped it over to the left .. ON/OFF. Popped over to the right .. ON/OFF. All with the biggest smile on his face. “There babe,” he said with confidence. “Now you got flashing. You feel better now?”

And wouldn’t you know … just as he sat back down the laptop completed its backroll without any errors. 🙂 Humor trumps fretting every time.
