Rainy Days and Puppy Paws

clothes-on-a-lineIt is unusual to have several days of rain in sunny southern California, but the ground all around me is saturated.  As I step on the grass in the backyard there is an ooze of muddy water and I sink nearly an inch into the not-so-solid-sod.

Dalai loves the mud and mess.  She has been bathed three times over the weekend with knee high mud boots and a muzzle caked solid with dirt and grit.  While the soil is usually too hard to penetrate during the warmer days of spring and summer, even the rocks seem to give way in the down pour.  All this makes for one happy puppy to dig to her hearts delight.  Between the bunny holes and the Dalai divots the backyard looks like a not-so-miniature golf course.

As the sun broke through for just a moment, I wondered if I had time to put a few sheets on the line before the next rains come in to town.  Sipping water from my stainless steel Klean Kanteen I smiled at the early morning irony of living green in a high-speed-wireless networked-technology-saturated house.

From fiber optic cables coming in for the grand convergence to laundry lines strung between palm trees in the back yard for the grand conservation.  It seems the life of illusion is a bundle of polar opposites.  Each seemingly separate contradiction trying to draw our mind away from the moment and into the dark conversation of qualitative bits and pieces.

All the while, the sun is trying to break through the scattered dark clouds that block our seeing of the sights and sounds that are right before our eyes.  Except for the puppy of course, who is never caught in the fallacy of the illusion and who is content to play in the mud even if it means yet another bath.
