{"id":1640,"date":"2010-07-29T16:24:17","date_gmt":"2010-07-29T23:24:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.coolkarma.com\/dharma\/?p=1640"},"modified":"2010-08-09T20:31:09","modified_gmt":"2010-08-10T03:31:09","slug":"refrigerator-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/?p=1640","title":{"rendered":"Refrigerator Art"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.coolkarma.com\/dharma\/wp-content\/uploads\/fridge.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1642\" title=\"fridge\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coolkarma.com\/dharma\/wp-content\/uploads\/fridge-193x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"193\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/fridge-193x300.jpg 193w, https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/fridge-660x1024.jpg 660w, https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/fridge.jpg 1980w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 193px) 100vw, 193px\" \/><\/a>With the litany of vanity press, just-in-time printers like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lulu.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lulu<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.createspace.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">CreateSpace<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blurb.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Blurb<\/a> as well as the well stocked tchotchke\u2013marketeers such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artscow.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">ArtsCow<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cafepress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">CafePress<\/a> \u2026 self publishing has become our new national past time.\u00a0 Perhaps it\u2019s the fault of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/CoolKarmaVideo\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube<\/a> where having our own channel makes us feel like we are in fact a reality TV star.\u00a0 But I would guess that the root cause of our erroneous belief that everyone else is actually interested in the product of our creative, albeit questionable genius, stems from our early childhood conditioning.\u00a0 In point, I blame the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.frigidaire.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Frigidaire<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>It is our parents who feigned fascination with our finger-paintings and promptly popped our pictures up on the family fridge that made us at first believe we actually had talent.\u00a0 Our Mona Lisa masterpieces for all the world to see \u2026 let\u2019s face it when we were small the kitchen seemed close to the whole world and for some of us it still <a href=\"http:\/\/www.30dayvegetarian.com\/forum\/\" target=\"_blank\">is<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>There are of course those stories of the self-published unknown author who later is picked up by a major publishing house and eventually makes her way onto <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oprah.com\/book_club.html\" target=\"_blank\">Oprah\u2019s Reading List<\/a> \u2026 oh wait, let me take a moment to savoir that thought.\u00a0 Ahhhhhhhh.\u00a0 Now what was I talking about?\u00a0 Oh, right\u2026\u00a0 It\u2019s easy to get carried away by our own creative talents when the allure of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0019DONKK\/ref=dm_sp_adp?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1236974406&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon.com<\/a> makes it so simple to make-believe that we are the next up-and-coming of the new millennium.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t get me wrong there are some amazing self-published works out on the market today.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/blessedarethesehands.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">BLESSED ARE THESE HANDS<\/a> is an exploration &amp;
