\"\"<\/a>With the litany of vanity press, just-in-time printers like Lulu<\/a>, CreateSpace<\/a>, Blurb<\/a> as well as the well stocked tchotchke\u2013marketeers such as ArtsCow<\/a> or CafePress<\/a> \u2026 self publishing has become our new national past time.\u00a0 Perhaps it\u2019s the fault of YouTube<\/a> where having our own channel makes us feel like we are in fact a reality TV star.\u00a0 But I would guess that the root cause of our erroneous belief that everyone else is actually interested in the product of our creative, albeit questionable genius, stems from our early childhood conditioning.\u00a0 In point, I blame the Frigidaire<\/a>!<\/p>\n

It is our parents who feigned fascination with our finger-paintings and promptly popped our pictures up on the family fridge that made us at first believe we actually had talent.\u00a0 Our Mona Lisa masterpieces for all the world to see \u2026 let\u2019s face it when we were small the kitchen seemed close to the whole world and for some of us it still is<\/a>!<\/p>\n

There are of course those stories of the self-published unknown author who later is picked up by a major publishing house and eventually makes her way onto Oprah\u2019s Reading List<\/a> \u2026 oh wait, let me take a moment to savoir that thought.\u00a0 Ahhhhhhhh.\u00a0 Now what was I talking about?\u00a0 Oh, right\u2026\u00a0 It\u2019s easy to get carried away by our own creative talents when the allure of Amazon.com<\/a> makes it so simple to make-believe that we are the next up-and-coming of the new millennium.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t get me wrong there are some amazing self-published works out on the market today.\u00a0 BLESSED ARE THESE HANDS<\/a> is an exploration & celebration of women’s values featuring Jean Shinoda Bolen, Z Budapest, Pat Fish, Ava Park, Diana Paxson, Susun Weed, and 55 other extraordinary women.\u00a0 Check out the movie on their amazing website.<\/a> And the genre is vast with entrepreneurs who donate part of their proceeds to Breast Cancer Research <\/a>and patent devices that will help save our natural resources<\/a> even Graphic Novels<\/a> are finding their way to the self-publishing paradigm.<\/p>\n

With Facebook Fan pages<\/a> anyone can feel like they have a target audience.\u00a0 Which is fine.\u00a0 I mean no harm done right?\u00a0 No one is going to quit their day job.\u00a0 Ok, I don\u2019t have a job this is pretty much my life in a nutshell \u2013 only small pun intended.\u00a0 And Daniel \u2013 YOU NEED TO GET BETTER GRADES IN SCHOOL NEXT YEAR AND GO TO COLLEGE because despite how AWESOME your band of the hour<\/a> is and all of the compliments we lavishly throw your way everyday telling you how amazing and talented you are \u2026. you may not be the next all time low<\/a> even if you are all that.\u00a0 Just sayin\u2019 enjoy what you do \u2026 ultimately it is ALL refrigerator art.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
