{"id":3074,"date":"2013-07-04T23:26:34","date_gmt":"2013-07-05T06:26:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.coolkarma.com\/dharma\/?p=3074"},"modified":"2013-07-04T23:26:48","modified_gmt":"2013-07-05T06:26:48","slug":"i-am-in-a-committed-online-relationship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/?p=3074","title":{"rendered":"I am in a committed Online Relationship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.coolkarma.com\/dharma\/wp-content\/uploads\/longterm-online1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3080\" alt=\"longterm online1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coolkarma.com\/dharma\/wp-content\/uploads\/longterm-online1.png\" width=\"549\" height=\"555\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/longterm-online1.png 549w, https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/longterm-online1-296x300.png 296w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 549px) 100vw, 549px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I heard some version of that line coming from the TV as I was walking by the family room today.\u00a0 It made my heart melt for a moment and I quickly counted my blessings for the man who is in my real world life.\u00a0 For some people, online isn&#8217;t a choice its the only option for a variety of reasons.\u00a0 For others, online is actually <em>preferred<\/em> over the real world.\u00a0 And of course there are those of us who simply could no longer bare the tears every night at the sound of &#8220;Cuidate, te amo.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To say &#8220;real world&#8221; as opposed to the virtual or online world, or chat friend, or cartoon lover is somehow misleading.\u00a0 It implies that the feelings are somewhat less than real, if they occur primarily over the ethernet.\u00a0 We assume that in order to be a &#8220;real friend&#8221; you have to meet in &#8220;real life&#8221;.\u00a0 But that is not always the case.\u00a0 And in our technology dense lives, meeting face to face may not be as important as sharing a connection on facebook. Or an emoticon on IM.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You don&#8217;t even know him, you&#8217;ve never actually met.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>All of us who have fallen in love online have heard that sentiment expressed to us in one form or another.\u00a0 The implication being that there is some magical truth that is passed when we exchange DNA as opposed to megabytes.\u00a0 However I assure you, that quality and quantity time are possible online and the depth and breadth of conversations that occur in chat rooms can often be so much more <em>personal<\/em> than would normally occur over coffee and cake.<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s relationship fabric is a complicated quilt of world wide encounters.\u00a0 The implications for parents is vast and ever changing and indeed a shaggy dog story for another time.\u00a0 Suffice to say that there are many imposters, freeks and seriously dangerous people who lurk on the internet.\u00a0 Just as there are walking the aisles of Walmart at a quarter to two in the morning.\u00a0\u00a0 Being safe is important across all means and modes of social interaction and spans every generation.\u00a0 And it IS every generation!\u00a0 Did you know that more than <a href=\"http:\/\/pewinternet.org\/Reports\/2012\/Older-adults-and-internet-use.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">HALF of adults over 65 use the internet<\/a>?\u00a0\u00a0 Grandma&#8217;s got facebook and she probably has a profile page at <a href=\"http:\/\/ourtime.com\" target=\"_blank\">OurTime.com<\/a> or any one of the other over 50+ <a href=\"http:\/\/seniorplanet.org\/top-5-online-dating-sites-for-seniors\/\" target=\"_blank\">dating sites on the web<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>My hat is off to all the couples around the world, who may indeed be a world apart from one another, but who still make it work everyday in a way that works for them.\u00a0 May we all have compassion for however passion finds us in the material or machine realm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I heard some version of that line coming from the TV as I was walking<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[6,12],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3074","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-humor","category-dharma"],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3074","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=3074"}],"version-history":[{"count":8,"href":"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3074\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":3085,"href":"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3074\/revisions\/3085"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=3074"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=3074"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=3074"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
