{"id":3700,"date":"2014-10-24T10:32:07","date_gmt":"2014-10-24T17:32:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.coolkarma.com\/dharma\/?p=3700"},"modified":"2014-10-24T11:27:37","modified_gmt":"2014-10-24T18:27:37","slug":"we-are-our-choices-%e2%80%95-jean-paul-sartre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/?p=3700","title":{"rendered":"\u201cWe are our choices.\u201d \u2015 Jean-Paul Sartre"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"moz-text-html\" lang=\"x-unicode\">\n<p>I was watching <a href=\"http:\/\/www.utopiatv.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Utopia<\/a> the other night and one of the participants mentioned that she only showers maybe 3 times a week whereas she used to bathe everyday in the outside world. \u00a0And I thought to myself &#8230; <em>Hey I only shower about 3 times a week!<\/em> &#8230; but I&#8217;m not living in a social experiment. \u00a0I have a chronic illness and for me that means that my to do list everyday can have only one or maybe two items on it. \u00a0I can do a load of laundry or I can shower. \u00a0I can cook a nice dinner or I can clean the bathroom. \u00a0 I can do my hair up nice and put on some mascara to look pretty for my boyfriend, or I can grind some coffee beans to make him a fresh pot of coffee. \u00a0Most days I only get to choose one activity &#8230; so I have to prioritze and choose wisely.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>When I use to live and play in the outside world \u00a0I never saw showering as a luxury. \u00a0My to do list may not have been as ambitious as the president of the PTA soccer mom&#8230; but I got things done. \u00a0Multiple things. \u00a0In one day. ..if not one afternoon. \u00a0A shower was how I started my day &#8230; not how I defined my accomplishment for the morning.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.coolkarma.com\/dharma\/wp-content\/uploads\/hr-andriod.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3701\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coolkarma.com\/dharma\/wp-content\/uploads\/hr-andriod.jpg\" alt=\"hr-andriod\" width=\"900\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/hr-andriod.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/hr-andriod-300x266.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>There are many illnesses that impact our energy level, to the point of dysfunction (e.g. chronic pain, POTS, Lupus, Fibromyalgia and many others.)\u00a0 For me there is often a 40+ delta between my <em>resting<\/em> pulse and when I am upright.\u00a0 My little<a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.macropinch.hydra.android&amp;hl=en\" target=\"_blank\"> android app takes a quick finger pulse<\/a> using the built in camera and is as accurate as any of my &#8220;expensive&#8221; heart rate devices.\u00a0 The example below is from my heart rate this morning as I was walking to the kitchen to heat up some rice packs in the microwave to ease the pain a bit in my shoulders and neck.\u00a0 As you can see from the time stamp in the upper right, my pulse goes from 78 to 124 in less than 60 seconds on my feet.\u00a0 It is not always that dramatic &#8230; or that fast &#8230; or that classic textbook for POTS.\u00a0 But it is the reason why on some days my todo list is very small, and even small things are very ambitious.\u00a0 In these moments I have to choose wisely because like it or not ..
