{"id":815,"date":"2009-05-08T20:42:52","date_gmt":"2009-05-09T03:42:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.coolkarma.com\/dharma\/?p=815"},"modified":"2009-05-08T20:45:49","modified_gmt":"2009-05-09T03:45:49","slug":"name-that-staulk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/?p=815","title":{"rendered":"Name That Staulk!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-816\" title=\"tall-weed-staulk\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coolkarma.com\/dharma\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/tall-weed-staulk.jpg\" alt=\"tall-weed-staulk\" width=\"200\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/tall-weed-staulk.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.karmabytes.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/tall-weed-staulk-160x300.jpg 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Never discouraged by my mis-attempt at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coolkarma.com\/dharma\/?p=239\" target=\"_blank\">growing tomatoes last summer<\/a>, I decided this spring to plant some dried pepper seeds that I had carefully collected from an organic red pepper I prepared last winter.\u00a0 I enlisted everyone&#8217;s help to water the seedlings and to all of our delight two wonderful pepper plants began to grow!<\/p>\n<p>Never having seen a pepper plant before, I anxiously awaited the tiny buds.\u00a0 But my pepper plant just kept growing taller and taller each week.\u00a0 The stalk was strong, certainly capable of holding up a good size bell pepper, yet no buds even hinted at an appearance.<\/p>\n<p>Then one afternoon as Richard and I were taking a drive around the neighborhood we stopped by an empty field that was over grown with weeds and wildflowers.\u00a0 There was a tall rock wall in front of us and as I looked out the car window and squinted into the sun, I could see the tops of some very familiar leaves peeking over the stone fence.\u00a0 &#8220;Does that look like our pepper plant in the backyard?&#8221; I puzzled to my husband.\u00a0 With a deep chuckle Richard agreed.\u00a0 As we looked around a bit more, we could see many <em>pepper plants<\/em> all throughout the abandoned overgrown green belt.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-817\" title=\"tall-weed-staulk-with-yellow-flowers\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coolkarma.com\/dharma\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/tall-weed-staulk-with-yellow-flowers.jpg\" alt=\"tall-weed-staulk-with-yellow-flowers\" width=\"200\" height=\"222\" \/>No there wouldn&#8217;t be any organic red peppers from my dharma      pot this summer.\u00a0 But as always, life&#8217;s lessons on the illusion of control continue to amuse me.\u00a0 Oh, and incase I forgot to get the point of the cosmic humor, a few weeks later some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coolkarma.com\/dharma\/?p=103\" target=\"_blank\">tiny yellow flowers<\/a> appear at the top of the mystery weed.<\/p>\n<p>Note: If any of my blog subscribers know what this California Wildflower might be &#8230;
