Darwin and Dragons

We have an abundance of vibrant orange dragonflies at our pond.  Seems as far back as I can remember, which admittedly is less impressive as it once was, we have primarily had flame skimmers.  But every once in a while a wonderful and rare (for us) blue dragon flies by the pond.

Sometimes it is the smaller blue Dasher, but recently we spotted a giant blue darner.  These unmistakable largest dragons are 5″ and remind me of something in a sci-tech-fi-flick.

I wondered then, why is it we don’t see more blue dragons in our yard?  Then I noticed one stray blue Dasher at our POOL.  It seemed out of place in our chlorine cement faux rock paradise for people.  And much to my surprise I saw it tapping its tail into the pool.  It was laying eggs … That would be swept away by the pool filter and never stand a chance in our chemically treated pool water.

Sometimes our glaring mistakes are obvious only to those who witness our ill conceived plans.
