Heart Medicine
TRUE STORY!
Every morning, Bitzy takes two pills for her heart medicine. My husband puts one pill in each hand and shows them to her. He then takes some mashed chicken that he specially prepares in advance and places a tiny spot of chicken on the tip of a spoon, stands the pill up in the middle and she happily eats the bite. He then gives her one spoon of plain chicken as a “reward”. Next he takes the second half pill and places it in a spot of chicken and she again happily takes her medicine. Then he gives her another spoon of chicken for being such a good girl.
He does this every day. It’s a lovely little routine they have going.
This morning, his brother was in the kitchen and teased Bitzy saying
“Look at you, little spoiled dog won’t take your medicine unless you get a treat.”
Bitzy cocked her head as if she was thinking about what he just said to her, then she went closer to my husband and with her paw she TAPPED one of his hands that had the pill. Michael opened his hand and showed her the pill and she GRABBED IT and chewed it right up! Then she HIT his other closed hand and when he opened it she snatched up the second pill — chewed it up and swallowed it down too!
Then she went over to Tony and just STARRED at him with a face that said “Look, I took my medicine! Ha!!” And she howled at him in a talkative tone.
Bitzy looked to my husband, then looked up at Tony, then looked at my husband again. As if prompting him to SAY SOMETHING!
My husband said “Well Tony, I guess you can’t make fun of her no more.” Then Bitzy went over to Michael to get her FOUR spoons of chicken! Such a funny girl.
